Hi guys. I am ready to shoot this thing! I'm having issues with the fuel system and no oil alarm.

I fired the motor and it ran fine at idle and when i got up on plane it ran for 30 seconds or so and started dying off. I went to check the bulb while running and pumped it twice and the engine pulled right back up perfectly.....ran another 30 seconds and did the same thing. I have found if you pump the bulb while running, it runs perfect. I figured I had a restriction or break in the fuel line so i disconnected the line and ran a new 2 foot section of hose with a brand new bulb to a 6 gal. tank to eliminate cracks in the line or the bulb. I also checked the inlet screen and it was clear. Unfortunately.......it's doing the same thing. I'm guessing a fuel pump prob?? Any other ideas would be GREATLY appreciated.

Secondly.....I'm getting a no oil alarm. I diconnected the line and hooked a piece of clear tubing to the inlet on the pump and it is pulsing as it should...but still getting the beep!

Any help or other ideas would be greatly helpfull as I'm fresh out! Thanks!

Don't know if this will help, but I had a brand new 98 175 Evinrude that acted the same way---it finally stopped for good in the inlet and I had a mechanic look at it. He changed the conical filter and it worked fine---I had looked at the filter and it seemed ok to me---apparently, the filter was so sensitive, that even minute particles will stop it. I had drained the carbs, but it was the filter.

some of those alarms are either/or ,
they sound the same for overheat/or fuel restriction.

until you resolve the issue mix oil in your fuel for now.

Monitor the oil tank to make sure its using oil.

It does sound like the fuel pump has a weak draw, pumping the bulb fills the bowls and then the pump is supposed to keep them filled.
You can switch over to a fuel only pump and premix from now on, its a LOT cheaper than the VRO pump.

I think its something like $70 (sierra) fuel only vs $400+ for the OMC VRO pump.

rebuilding the pump is a mixed bag of results.

I agree...sounds like fuel pump heading south.

Re the alarm....I'd start by disconnecting the various sensor wires one by one while the alarm is sounding so you can be certain which one is causing the alarm. In my case the "low oil" sensor in the oil resevoir tank had gone flakey causing a constant alarm. I believe there are sensors (tan wires I think) on each bank of cylinders, the oil tank and the fuel pump. Now that I type that, maybe your fuel and alarm problems are all part of the same issue with the fuel pump. All the various sensor wires have a sissor connection point that can be easily undone to see if the alarm stops...usually the connection point is hidden by a black rubber sleeve that can be peeled/rolled back to expose the connection.

Hope that made sense.

Good luck!

yeh I think the different sensors are isolated in a common circuit by a diode in the loom.
