1988 Ford 2.3L OMC Carburetor Question....

Hi guys,

Well, we took 'er out on the maiden voyage for the year... it kind of "stumbled" a few times, and after questioning on the board, it was decided that a carburetor rebuild was probably in order.

So, as I'm getting parts lined up, an electric choke can no longer be cross-referenced for this Rochester 2bbl, along with the float. The float appears to be fine, but the choke will have to be replaced. Does anyone else have a better idea for where to get parts? I called our local marina, and they can't get anything through their distributor, and neither can the local auto parts stores (CarQuest, O'Reilly's) Any other ideas?

I suppose the next step would be to find a rebuilt, or a new carb... But I'd really rather not spend any more than absolutely necessary right now.

Thanks a bunch for any advice,

Jason

Thanks Gary. It looks like they have the carb that I need - the numbers are listed. I was hoping to just find the electric choke I need -- maybe I can e-mail them and they can get me the part seperately. Thank you very much!!!

check an old 2bbl GM carb. I'm not sure but mine looks just like a 2bbl carb off an 82' buick regal or olds cutless. GM carb on a Ford engine. no wonder I have so much trouble...

If you were ever unfortunate enough to have a MoFoCo carburetor, you'd be happy for the gm unit.

I would suggest you take the thing apart. clean and inspect the entire thing. Write down the number from the throttle body and go to your local auto parts dealer.

The carb is pretty straight forward and has about 4 total moving parts.

Look for the local mom and pop good old fashioned auto parts

See if he can find you a rebuild kit. The kits cover a wide range of Carbs that are very close and have interchangeable parts.

The kit should have a needle and seat and all the right gaskets. The auto parts dude should also be able to find you a choke too.

Take your time and good luck.
