the boat is a chrysler 1980 17 foot model 358ap6308475. i drug this outta my buddys yard. ive gotta either buy it for 600$ or sell it or part it out. my biggest concern is the floor of the boat between the seats, it springy and i cut a x in the carpet n looked and its fiberglass. i was thinking i could sheet with plywood. what u guys think. fixable?
the engine is a lm318xylx-866, figure its a 225 hp 318. i had it firein up the other day. no knocks, oil looks good. anything i should know about an inboard engine? whats the blower for?
the stern drive is chrysler 300 5006 hb.
how do i fill the oil in the stern drive? think i found the drain on the bottom. do u fill from the bottom up like my outboard? dose it take the same oil? i dont wanna blow this thing up trying to figure out weather its worth fixing or not. the trailer is pretty nice too, think its a ezloader, has a bunch of wheels. so im thinkin it may be worth my 600$ even if ive gotta part it out. whatta u think i should do? any idea what a asking price would b for motor, stern drive, trailer?

I'd get rid of it. The floor is not fiberglass, it's wood coated with a thin layer of fiberglass. If the floor is soft, chances are that the stringers are rotten too...along with the transom and every other piece of wood in or on the boat. Don't get sucked into this money pit.

Agreed, run away.

I did the same job on a boat last spring, replaced stringers and deck. We took the boat out and when I powered up the engine the transom flexed visibly.

It freaked me out...no more junk boats for me. The outboard looks good on a good 17' I bought cheap though!

If you already own it see what you can get for the parts. If you have not paid for it yet, keep your money and look or something solid.

Looks like a Chrysler 318 and an OMC Stringer drive. I love those engines, but they are not always easy to get parts for anymore. Chrysler Marine went out of business in the early 80s, 82 maybe? They hold up awfully well, and run like a watch when right.

OMC has been gone 10 years, and the stringer drive probably hasn't been made for a good 20 years now. An OMC mechanic is hard to locate, and someone that can actually get a Stringer right is rare. Add to that rotted deck (which is not hard to replace) and the possibility of further rot in the structure and this might be a huge money pit. If you can get it free, probe around the transom, and whack the floor out to check the stringers. If the basic structure is good, and the mechanicals work, I'd stick a floor in there and run it. The original floor as mentioned is nothing more than plywood with a layer of fiberglass mat and resin on it. I've actually seen those where it was only glassed on the top, the bottom was just raw wood, and of course it rotted away. If its not solid, and/or the motor or drive need major work, its good for parts.

i'm with everyone else. but that's my opinion

the blower is to expell gasoline fumes from the bilge prior to starting the engine. As they are explosive, and combustion requires spark, it's an explosion hazard. Run them for 4 minutes prior to starting. that's what the blowers are for.

It's an OLD Chrysler outdrive, not a stringer drive. You would be better off if it was a stringer.
You don't have anything there worth putting money into. No parts for the drive, little information.
Not even worth parting out. No one out there to buy the stuff.
