Hello all,

I going to replace the temp sensor on my 1989 Johnson 60. I dont have the repair manual, and am pretty new to working on outboards... Cna anyone give me any tips? do I need to remove the head to take the sensor out? I took the plastic nut off, does it just slide out the back or do I need to take the head off?

Also, when testing my thermostat, (it is like a bullet style) how much should I see the active part (Sorry I dont know what its called) move when submersed in hot water. It does open, but only seems to open about 1/8 of an inch or so...

If I replace the temp sensor & the Tstat, and still get an overheat warning, where should I go next? Last time the overhead alarm went off, the water coming out of the pee hole was pretty hot, but not too hot to touch or anything (Impellor was replaced this spring)

Thanks!

No need to remove the cylinder head, just remove the water jacket cover.

1/8" movement of the thermostat is okay.

Impeller replaced last spring does not guarantee that it is still good. Best to drop the lower unit and inspect/replace it.
