I purchased a new Merc 30 EFI in 2005, had it out on my little boat (14') for about 3 hours - then it sat until today. Cranked it up and I noticed that no water was coming out from the water pump hole near the power head. I couldn't remember if water was supposed to immediately coming out or if it waited until the thermostat opened ... I ran the motor using the ears things (I forget what they are called). I just ran it for about 3-4 minutes and thought it best to shut it down until I figured out what was what. Any ideas ?

Re: Merc 30 EFI

Try to hook the hose up to the pee-hole, and flush the system in reverse without running the engine. Then put the muffs on it again and try to run it again. Worked on my 40hp when I took it out of storage this year.

Re: Merc 30 EFI

It worked, then got clogged again, took the hose off and there was a small piece of rubber blocking the pee-hole. WOnder where that came from.

Anyway - back in action. Thanks for the advice.

Rubber might be from your impeller. Might want to take a look at it someday. Anyway, glad I could help.
