check fuel tank vent, can't pump fuel out of a vacuum.

Re: Engine surge

And if venting is O.K. then maybe the fuel pump is giving you some warning signs.

Re: Engine surge

Surging is caused by a lean fuel condition. Check the tank vent and then the pump and then the jets. Could also be a colappsed fuel line.

But anyway, the surge means its running lean.

Re: Engine surge

the easiest way to see if it is pumping, is the turn the red handle on the primer 180 degrees, and pull the primer hose off the top carb. now just turn the motor over, you should get good strong spurts of fuel out the hose.

Re: Engine surge

Most surging is caused by air leaking into the system or, sometimes, the fuel pump can't keep the float bowl full at WOT. Work on restrictions in the line from the tank pickup to the pump. If you have a built-in tank, check the anti-siphon valve and the pickup screen.
