Hello everyone - I recently picked up a 2006 Tahoe Tracker Marine with a GM 4.3L Vortec motor and was not informed the heads were both cracked as well as a small hairline crack in the valley.

I have been scanning these posts for information and what direction to go in. Right now it seems that I have two options:

1) Pick up either a marine or truck vortec 4.3L motor and take what I need off my engine and install it on the new block. The question is, what would be the best block to pick up and what would stay and what would be replaced?

2) Pick up either a new engine or a reman engine for about $1800-2,200 and install what does not come with it.

3) I know I have to pick up a manual, but, again, what would be best manual to pick up that would help me either rebuild and remove/replace the engine in the boat?

Any other help would greatly be appreciated. This is my first time doing this so be gentle.

Thanks

no question motor swap is in order. new/reman engines generally come with a warranty, used ones don't. tho the price tag is a bit scary. if you know what to look for, a good solid, used engine can be had cheaper. obviously verifying how it runs firsthand is ideal. not always the case tho. a compression test, leak down if possible, having a shop check for block cracks, damage is good idea. a truck motor is useable, however cam may need to be changed. marine motors generally produce more torque than automotive, allowing them to reach plane faster, move thru water better. research a bit, be extra cautious, and if something doesn't sound right or seem right, walk away. good luck.

Thanks for the info so far, it is very helpful. Does anyone have Service Manuals #14, #25, and #32 that can be sent electronically (i.e. .pdf file, other type of attachemnt, etc.)? I have tried other sources but I can never get anything to work. Maybe it is just me or the files.

I would love to get my hands on some manuals if at all possible. Anyone....help.

Thanks
