fuel starvation now!!!

and I'm stumped.

Let me give you the full story.

Originally, the boat wouldn't pick up fuel from the tank, I had it running just fine off an external tank.

I figured I just needed more fuel in the tank for it to pick it up. So I put another 5 gallons in making a total of ten gallons. VOILA! I had it running for about 30 minutes off the tank. I thought I was in business.

Yesterday, I put about another 15 gallons or so in the tank, making it pretty much full. Go and try to get it started on the ramp, it starts..dies. Then cannot get it started again. It looked as if it wasn't picking it up from the tank again.

So, this morning, I take the line off, blow through the line each way, take off the fuel filter at the carb, and there was some gunk in there, I blew that out. Tried to start it again, It filled the inline fuel filter up, and I can shoot gas out the jets from the accelerator pump, but once it starts, you cannot give it gas, it just cuts off.

If I take off the fuel line, the fuel squirts pretty far out of there.

So. Fuel in the line, fuel pump is pumping adequately, the carb filter is clean, and the inline filter appears to be clean, and the accelerator pump is pumping.

What on earth could the problem be?!

Idle circuit in the carb blocked?

Sounds like a rebuild is in order.

Has it been sitting long?

I know the carb was rebuilt, was ready to install. Do not know how long it was sitting after rebuild though.

I know the carb was rebuilt

1. doesn't mean it was rebuilt correctly.

2. not all carbs are rebuildable.

3. still sounds like a carb issue.

uhhh, yeah. I was thinking it had to be carb too, so i went and started pulling it apart.

I don't know what first grade class did the work, but the little wire that connects the seat to the float was wrapepd around the metering rods...I've never seen anyhting like it.

Furthermore, I dont' know how it ran before!! But, with a seat stuck down, and not moving, I'm pretty confident thats my problem
