I need to replace the stereo on my '08 Suntracker Regency. The original one was trashed and removed before I got the boat. the speakers and wiring are there though. I don't need to rock the lake but I would like to be able to hear it while under power. How many watts do I need. BTW, the boat has a 60hp Bigfoot

Most units these days are 25 to 54 x 4. then you can go up from there. Pick one you like and go with it. Id say away from ones in a blister pack for 10.00. they dont last long. BUt then again if something happens to it, who cares.

Re: How much stereo power

I just installed a new radio: Pyle, got it from Overtons, and just got it to work with the engine running. (wiring problems). Have not taken it out yet, I let you know how mine works. ( I have a 2-stroke 60hp BF. I bet yours is a 4-stroke, so it will be quieter)

Also, if your using the original speakers, I be they wont handle no 100 W amp! So yo may want to see what the speakers can handle. ( and if they even work!)

Re: How much stereo power

When I bought my boat-- (24' Misty Harbor pontoon) It had a 600 watt system in it. 6 pioneer 6x9's and one 10" subwoofer. 2 Fosgate amps.

I tried to get the seller to keep the stereo and drop the price. He wouldn't do it. I told my wife--the first thing I was going to do was yank all that stereo stuff out of the boat when I got it home.

Well-- I took the boat out before I pulled it all out. And I'm glad I did.

More seems to be better. I have a Merc 150 horse 2 stroke, and it gets a bit loud. The abundance of speakers on the boat actually allows me to keep the volume down because they are spread out over the entire pontoon. I don't crank it (i'm too old-lol) but it sounds good at all times.

I'd say at least run a small amp w/ multiple speakers.

I think its like the hp deal. You can run wide open all the time with a small motor, or run part throttle with a big motor and your stuff will last longer. Same with the stereo-- in my opinion.

We don't even have it on most of the time. But when we do, it's nice to be able to hear it over the motor.
