Hey, this is my first post on this site about my first boat I have ever owned so please bare with me.
The boat is a 1989 bayliner capri with an i/o 2.3L omc.
The problem I am having is if I try and gun it the engine dies. As if it is possibly being flooded. If I really baby the throttle I can eventually get enough rpm's to plane.
While accelerating if I try to accelerate slightly too quickly the rpm's drop rapidly and I have to ease off on the throttle quickly to prevent the engine from dieing.
Even when I do baby the throttle there is a delay in the rpms increasing by a couple of seconds.
Could this be a dirty carb? Bad throttle cable position? It does have old gas in it but when it does finally get enough rpm's to plane it runs fine.
I'm pretty mechanically inclined and I am going to start tinkering with it tomorrow.
Any tips on where to start would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry for the long post!
Thanks,
Luke
