Ive got a 2000 175 procraft with a 115 merc on it and i just bought it. Anyway when I test drove it, it drove out fine so i bought it. Anway me and wife went to the lake for the fourth and made about a one mile round trip and decided to come in and get some bait from the dock. Well anyway as we was pulling in the no wake zone i slowed it down and as i was pulling into the dock and noticed that my reversw wouldnt work. So i kept trying and it never did work. Its still not working. Its making a noise that sounds like its slipping, like it wants to go into gear but it cant. The motor runs smoothe and pulls normal in the forward direction but will not go the other. Im not for sure what to do. Any and all help is very appreciated. Thanks

Re: 115 merc

A stretched shift cable will pull into one gear fine but not push far enough to lock into the other gear.

Test on the trailer with the engine OFF, pull the lanyard to be sure.

Shift into gear, try to turn the prop by hand, if it fails to lock into gear then disconnect the shift cable at the motor and manually shift into gear, test/turn the prop to see if it now locks into gear. If yes, replace the cable.

Do not attempt to re-adjust the cable as you will soon damage the engagement dogs on the other gear and increase your repair cost far more than just the cable.
