i just recently bought a 1989 glassport boat with a 1989 force 150hp engine,
the genlt that i bought it off of informed me that the trim and tilt leaked down when it was all the way up, well know it won't go up and when it goes down it goes really slow the puwp motor seems like it is working but the cylinders are not going up to push the engine up any help with this problem

make sure the reservoir is topped off with 30w non-detergent motor oil. Then listen for electric motor. If motor spins but system doesn't lift then it is always always fixed with valve body rebuild. If you do a valve body rebuild it is best to put new seals on motor at same time. They usually go within a year or two of each other and being pro-active on motor buy another 10 years of life for cheap.

Sorry but no. It is a terrible DIY project and I'm not willing to spend hours and hours walking everybody through all possible variations knowing up front that at least half of them will never have the tools or parts to do a decent job.

If your lucky you found the reservoir, I just bought my first outboard with a 91 Force 150 and I cant figure out where to even fill the reservoir or even change it. Im betting mine is really low wont trim but only few degrees.. If anyone knows where it is please let me know..

If you can't find the reservoir plug then how do you know what type of fluid to use?

there are three pumps that could be considered valid factory pumps for 1991. Post a picture or a link to a picture of what you have.

I found it checked it was a little low cycled it 4 or 5 times no deal the prob. is still there, very little up trim... Could the "up" relay be bad ? it trims down ok and goes up ok but it seems like it skips the "up" trim part and goes right to tilt mode...

If a system is low on fluid then it lifts until it runs out of oil. Then it stays there. No bleed down or anything. It works perfectly but just doesn't go all the way up.

If trim motor is not spinning then it is probably a bad relay but could be bad motor. If motor shows no signs of rust around top bolts or gasket faces them motor is probably good. Motor will last for either 100years or until moisture gets past seals ... whichever comes first. Keep putting new gaskets on your motor before the old ones break down and you'll probably never need to buy a trim motor.

If trim motor is spinning and nothing is happening then it is either low on fluid, blew out a piston ring, or needs a valve body rebuild. If your engine was made by mercury and the trim has red fluid then you probably blew out piston ring and need a complete overhual including rams, pump, everything. Mercury used cheap fluid and it cut life of system in half. If your engine was made by chrysler or USMarine then a valve body rebuild should fix you up for another 10-20 years.
