I just bought a 1978 Glastron boat. On our second trip out we began to take on water. Soon the bilge pump was not working so we had even more water in the boat. We did manage to get the boat out of the river and back on the trailer. My husband believed that it was possibly the boot but once we had the boat on the trailer we discovered a crack in the hull. What is the best and most inexpensive way to repair this problem. Is it something that needs to be done professionally or can my husband (who is qiute handy) do this himself? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We are located in Northeast Iowa so if a professional is need suggestions in this area would be great too! Thank you

The fact that you are asking this question leads me to think that both you and your husband are Inexperienced at repairing boat hulls. With that said, I would highly recommend you take it to a professional. you do not want to spend a bunch of money repairing it yourselves, only to find out you did something wrong and have to pay somebody else to do it again the right way.

Ditto. This board is all about helping people do repairs themselves, and do it right the first time.

Take a bunch of pics from any angles you can get and post them here, we'll comment and help out.

Re: Hull Damage

Hey, I have no previous experience and have tackled this very repair, just for starters. I have the inside portion of my hull cracked repaired, and only have to do the outside build up and fairing. I have absolutely no doubt that the repair area is going to be better than the original hull section was.

If you/he are handy and are motivated to learn and willing to spend the necessary amount of money, then go for it. Post some pics here and ask for specific advice and dive in. :)
