shifting into reverse

k ive taken my omc outdrive off recently due to problems. Now i have gotten everything put back together, ive lost my reverse. I have adjusted the top cable on the motor from the shifter and can adjust it to either have reverse or forward, but not both. Can you guys throw out some ideas on how to adjust the linkage in these? thanks dustin... 88 sunbird with 4.3l omc cobra outdrive.

Still using the original lower shift cable?

Take your drive back off and put it back on properly.

Everything should be in neutral.

yeah im using the same shift cable, but before i took the drive off it worked perfert. I put the drive on with the outdrive in netural and shifter in netural.
