I just recently put a new prop on my boat (17.5 foot bayliner). It is the same size as the factory calls for and I replaced it with the same one that was on there. I have a 13.25 x 17. (Michigan Wheel Aluminum). For some reason with this new prop it seems my RPMs are running way too high (I have no tac on the boat). It runs normal to about 25 mph then seems to drop a few RPMs but continues to climb at about the same RPM to about 31-32 MPH. What can be causing this? It never did it before this new prop. Is there a way to adjust it or would buying a different prop be the best option even though this is what the factory calls for?

Thanks,
Brett

The best option would be buying a 20 pole tachometer. Without it, you are just guessing at what is going on and your ear can not adequately tell you if RPM is correct.

At least buy an inductive tach and you can read it from the plug wire. They are on ebay all the time.

Like Frank said, it is all guess work without knowing the actual RPMs you are turning.

Got my tach from ebay. It was the star wars variety and had to buy a three package. Three tach's for $12. +$10 shipping. There're more availiable.
