Gas tank hose - which direction for Arrow

I installed a new hose and a Raycor 10 micron filter which I spliced into a section of the new the hose line.

The back of the Atwood package shows the arrow on the bulb going towards the the tank yet the one that I took off was a Mercury quicksilver one that had the arrow going towards the outboard!

You can't make a mistake connecting it because the fittings on each end are specific to the tank and the outboard.

I installed the new one the same way the old one was which was arrow towards the outboard.

There is also an arrow on top of the Raycor filter unit that shows the direction towards the outboard.

I'm confused by the package's picture showing the opposite.

Any suggestions!

You are correct installing it towards the outboard

Yep, the arrow shows the direction of the flow of gas in the hose - which will be towards the motor.

I would think gas flows from the tank to the outboard. But what do you think of this on the back of the box?

The card says "made in USA" that could be the problem right there :D

I just checked my other boat that is the 40 hp merc. The arrow is pointing towards the outboard.

Yet the one I installed on the other boat has an arrow going towards the tank?

Have you never seen a misprint in a newspaper or magazine, or the wrong picture for the caption or the wrong caption for the picture? Stuff happens. Fuel flows from the tank to the engine. The bulb can't work that way. The dude/dudette that created the artwork screwed up and they obviously have no proof readers -- or if they do they don't know squat about fuel lines.

It's not just the picture. The bulb too has the arrow going towards the tank as they must have reversed the fittings on the hose too. They must have looked at their picture and then assembled the bulb backwards and reversed the fittings too.

I'm going away over the weekend with both boats. If the hose gives us any trouble I already tossed the old one in a locker. After our trip I'll bring this wacky hose back to Walmart. On second thought I think I'll call Atwoods c/s dept. They will probably just send me a corrected hose. It was only $19.99. For their prices I found Atwood makes decent quality stuff.

Anyways, I don't think walmart would appreciate if I walked into their store with a smelly hose that reeks of gas even if I drained it first.

I don't like the atwood fuel hoses. I put one on my starcraft when i first got it and the hoses got stiff within a year. I just don't think the hose quality is there. The boat had a Johnson 70 on it but I replaced the atwood hose with a mercury hose (couldn't find a Johnson hose locally) and swapped the end fittings and it worked well for many years after that. Actually until I sold it this year. The mercury hose was $10 more, but a better deal IMO. Just my opinion.

Ya, I was not crazy about that stiff feel either. I'll go with the OEM which was a Merc which has been on there for 10 years. I installed the Racor so I figured I'd put on a new house since I was splicing anyway.

Thx for your feedback.
