Re: 1967 9.5hp evinrude wont start
OK I flushed the carburetor drain plug and that did not do anything. I can pump gas into the carb but it does not start, i don't think it is getting fuel. The only way i could get it to light is giving it a shot of fuel directly into the carburetor, is there anything else i can try?
We are not trying to clean the plug. The jet is behind and aligned with the plug. If you cannot get it open you will need to get a repair kit and rebuild the carburetor. You probably should do that anyway.
All of the fuel that is pulled through the carburetor to the firing chambers must pass through the high speed jet on the 9.5HP motor.
It works like this: The fuel pump and primer bulb keep the float bowl full;
The vacuum created by the movement of the cylinders opens the reeds and pulls fuel through the carburetor, mixing it with air;
Normal cold start requires a richer than normal mixture of fuel and air so we choke off the air to pull more gas until the engine fires;
When you need to artificially introduce gasoline into the mix, something is blocking the normal ability of the choked carburetor to perform that function (usually a blocked high speed jet, but sometimes due to a closed or improperly set lean/rich needle).
