1999 25 Merc 2 stroke.

I have a choke on the motor and also the book says to choke press start key in while cranking.

I don't have the O/B in front of me at the moment, but when I do how can I tell if the choke on the start key is doing anything. Is there something that should move when I view it with the cover off?

Thx

Re: Choke by key switch?

There is a butterfly in the throat of the carb which will close when you press in on the ignition switch. If the ignition key can be pressed into the switch body and tgat butterfly closes when you do it, yay! you have electric choke. Otherwise, well, you still have the manual method.

The engine may not have actual choke butterflies but rather a primer solenoid. Pushing the key energizes the solenoid, opens a valve and extra fuel is allowed into the intake for cold starting. You should hear a definite click if you have either a choke or primer system.
