water pump indicator - no water

Just exhaust gas coming out of the water pump pee hole on 2004 50hp Johnson. I blew air through here and got bubbles underwater in water intake, so no obstruction - same outcome by putting finger over pee hole. Odd thing is that engine is not overheating. Any idea what's wrong here? Thoughts very much approciated.

90 % blown head or exhaust gasket into the cooling system. not allowing water to come up. do to exhaust pressure.

Thanks, tashasdaddy. Boat runs fine, possibly suggesting the exhaust gasket more likely (?) but I will get compression test as well. Appreciate the input!

Ya, a compression test will tell the story but if you are getting exhaust out the pee hole you have a bad gasket somewhere.

Good thing is they are easy to change.

Issue resolved. It turns out the 2004 Johnson 50hp 4-stroke has an odd arrangement in that the pee discharge is dumped into the exhaust port. A cleanout wire can't get in the port and than up into the discharge outlet - you have to remove the lower engine cowlings and disconnect the hose. The fitting to which it attaches, not visible with cowlings on, filled with muck - could be mud daubers doing their thing. Easily cleaned, and I am now spewing water once again!
