3.0 liter mercurser 1988 wellcraft stern drive was running fine until!!! sounded like lifters got real noisy and i backed it down and it shut off and would'nt restart so we got toed in.(thank god for good boating people)got back home pulled distributer and gear was it tacked then pulled valve cover and cam was'nt turning because rockers were;nt moving. Turns over fine!! anyone with this problem and what the HE-- happened? have'nt taken apart yet!!

does the cam turn at all on any of rockers? if it turns on some but not all, probably broken cam. otherwise, if motor turns over, but cam is not turning at all, probably broken timing belt/chain.

Ayuh,.... Yank the motor,... You're going in Deep on that 1....

Timing gear set at a Minimum,.... Worst case, new long block...

no rockers are moving when motor cranks, no metal in oil at head.(shavings) is it true these motors are gear drive and no belt or timing chains?
