Trying to get the motor right before I continue with my 1976 13.5

new fuel pump, and carb. rebuilt two days ago. Cranks and idols
very nicely...When you more throttle up the boat attempts to reach
plane but the engine surges up and down....runs fine when you pull
the throttle pack ??? Carb adjust ? Timing issue? i need some help
please....

It might be in the spark. I had similar issues when I throttled it would lose power. Replace your spark plugs and cables. If it is a fuel issue you should notice a difference when running it and you choke it, you should have a surge in power. If not then it is an electrical issue.

thanks to all...I will replace plugs and plug wires...carb. was just rebuilt last Saturday and it was very clean....and hose was replaced..but i am not sure if all hoses were done. The engine doesnt die...it surges up and down and the bow stays high and cannot level off..have also tried all motor angle positions.
I will ask at shop for alcohol resistant line...we bought the new ones at a hardward store.....but this was just Saturday...will write back in a few with the results...Many thnks to both of you.

You May Have A Jetting Problem I Once Bought A Used Outboard And It Would Start Good But We Took It Out And It Ran Like Crap So We Took The Airbox Off And It Took Off. It Turned Out To Be A Jetting Problem Hope This Helps And Good Luck.
