Rookie Trim Mistake

I've got a fishing boat with a 40hp evinrude from the early 70's. I just today, broke the rod that lifts the engine when adjusting the trim because the motor was in the "run position" and I'm an idiot and forgot. The trim motor sits on the side of the engine and raises and lowers this rod, of sorts, that hold the engine. The motor works just fine--raising and lowering the now useless assembly that lacks the rod that supports the motor. I guess what I'm asking you folks is first, what is that rod called? It's an older setup from what I can tell and i have no idea where I'm going to find a replacement, which is my second question. Any help would be great.

Go to BRP's website and check the parts diagrams there. They have PL's back to the late 60's. Of course, you need to determine the model and year of your motor. Look at the data plate on the port side of the motor mounting bracket. Once you get a PN, there's a decent chance a dealer can order the part for you.

Re: Rookie Trim Mistake

Alright, it's a 1984 but the trim assembly seems to be a completely separate component. I've "fixed it" and attached an image with the repair in place. However, I'd still like to know what this part should be called should I find that this repair is inadequate. Thanks for your help.
