just bought another boat...86 Bayliner capri 1600 w/85Hp Force
doing the usual maintenence on the, changing plugs, clean carbs...that sort of thing...get down to changing the oil in the lower unit...but can't find the drain plug...looked in my manual...can see the othe plugs, but no drain plug.
After further inspection, it looks as though they painted over it, and over it and over it. so i break out the handy wire wheel and start cleaning all the paint and age off it...and...SURPRISE!!!!!!!! there is no drain plug...instead...it appears as the PO must have lost or stripped out the threads, so they decided to fill it with some sort of hard epoxy!!!
question: how safe would it be if i carefully drilled out the epoxy and some of the housing so i can cut new threads and put in a new drain plug?
obviously flush the lower unit completely out after cutting in the new threads
your thoughts?
