Mechanic just told me its going to cost me about $3,000 to rebuild my 74 mercruiser 165. The boat has has not been run since 2003. I have fuel in the oil, so mechanic said he was pretty sure the O-rings are "stuck"?? (does he mean damaged or bad?). Is it really that big of a project to replace the O-Rings???

$3000 sounds a little light for what it will cost for getting a boat ready for the water after 5 years.
Gas in the oil means you most likely need a new fuel pump, not an oring.
But there are a lot of other issues, like bellows, impellers, tuneups, electrical connections, dead fuel in the tanks, plugged carbs, etc. that will have to be addressed

Like you said sounds like a fuel pump issue, but this is the second new fuel pump we put on. Not sure about the other problems, just started at one and landed on the fuel/oil one.
