I put a timing light on it and if I did it right it is way way off. I tried all three plug wires and the top cylinder was the closest so I figured that was the right one. It was a good 2" from the pointer setting on 17 degrees like the motor sticker calls for. Unless that is with the throttle advance all the way open? Anyways I am guess I have know idea what I am doing because the engine runs, not the best but does start fine so there is no way the timing could be off that far. Right? Please help. I have google searched high and low and haven't found an answer, close, but never close enough. Thanks! Justin

Did you do the timing with the engine running at full throtle on the water or with the engine cranking over on dry land and the sartk advance against the stop screww? If the second way it will be 4Degrees`s lower because of the soilid state components.

I did it like a car with the engine idling (on muffs) in my driveway.

I am not even sure what this means. I am outside my norm.lol I think I have a good idea but not sure

If you have any doubt, you would be wise to leave the timing alone. Unless the ignition has been altered, there is no reason to change it.

To fine tune the timing, it's best to use a test wheel and tank.

Ok I am going to take your advice. I will fix my carb problems first and if the thing runs good after that I won't have to worry about it anyways. Thank you!
