I have replaced both rear light fixtures, because the old ones were very rusty. Now I have the following and I simply cannot figure it out!

  • Right Signal - bright
  • Left Signal - weak, and the center back light blinks weakly with it
  • Headlights - Right is bright. Lef is weak, and again center light is also dim.
  • Headlights w/ Brakes - Right is VERY bright, Left goes OUT completely
  • Signals w/ Headlights - Right good, Left blinker can hardly be seen at all

I tried jumper cables from trailer to the towing vehicle - to make sure I have good ground - no help.
ANY ideas of how to diagnose this would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Trailer Lights - driving me CRAZY

I had the same problem a few days ago and was readyto pull out what was left of my hair. I did have a ground problem, but not what you would normally think of right away. On my trailer the light light brackets are bolted to the main trailer frame. I was not getting a ground frome the main frame through the bolts to the bracket. Called a friend of mine who is pipe welder. He came over with his weld truck and welded the brackets to the main frame. Ground issue is gone forever.

check all grounds, grind down til you see shiny metal, and you will be fine.

Sometimes it can be as simple as reefing on some of the trailer bolts holding it together. Running a seperate ground to each light should help immensely as well.
