What kind of anchor/s should I get?

Hi, I have an 89 sunrunner 175B open bow skiboat. I primarily use it on lakes, but there are a few rivers around here that I would like to use it on as well. I want to get 2 anchors so that I can anchor the bow and the stern securely in a river, or out away from the beach on a windy day. What would be ideal for me? I tend to think that bigger is better, but if a small anchor would do the trick, that'd be great.

Thanks!

i just got a 20 lb navy anchor (they sell them here at iboats). it has worked for years on my dads 23' maxum, and i used it this weekend and loved it. set it once, and didnt have to worry about it dragging. and, its easy to store.

I recently got a box anchor (www.slideanchor.com) and REALLY like it. My local dealer recommended it for my 24-ft cabin cruiser and it holds really well. You don't need any chain with this anchor and since it is designed to hold at a 45-deg angle, you need a lot less rode (rope). I know there are other good anchors out there, but my boat came with a cheap one (which broke one Saturday afternoon) and this anchor is like night and day compared to that one. Check it out.

don't skimp on the chain. And be very careful using a stern anchor as they have sent many a boat to the bottom.

I have a 14 ft. jetboat and my sinker-type anchor works great out on the pond.

I have a 4 lb Fortress fluke-type anchor (some people call it the "wife-friendly" anchor due to its light weight) and it works very well in all bottoms, excluding "heavy weeds". It's a bit pricey but well worth it. I use a mushroom anchor in heavy weed areas because it's easy to clean and doesn't get stuck as easy. Tasha's Daddy helped me make an educated decision so maybe he'll help you too!!!

Wow! That does look like a nice anchor.
