I am trying to get an Evinrude V4, 115 HP, 1983 going. Fuel is getting to the plugs (wet after cranking) but no spark in any cylinders. What should I address to troubleshoot? There is one fuse in system and looks fine. Is it possible I screwed something up by turning the flywheel counterclockwise a bit by hand in effort to see if engine was free to turn?

Unplug the red cannon plug on the main engine & boat harness. Jump the starter solenoid and check for spark. If you try to start the motor keep in mind you'll have to flood the motor to shut it off. Just check spark. If you have spark with the cannon plug unplugged then the problem is in the kill circuit (black wire w/ yellow tracer). Might be the key switch.

So just bypass the starter solenoid with the positive lead from battery? Should be fine if I detach fuel hose, right? The control box is OMC, with a small black push button on the side near the key - I imagine this is the kill?

that black button needs to be in when you start, that is the kill, are you missing the piece that goes in there?

try again, unplug the red harness plug at the engine, it doesn't matter what any buttons are for on the controller because the whole thing is disconnected. Jump the solenoid with a short peice of wire.
if it starts choke it out by putting your palms over the carb intakes.

The kill looks like a simple "depress" button. It doesn't look like its made to have the little plastic horseshoe that pushes it "out" on newer controls. So you think I have to press this button while turning key?

I don't want to discount the good advise you are getting from these guys, you should try what they are telling you. your kill switch might be the plunger type that fits completely over the top of the push button. Try pushing it in and starting.

Re: Evinrude 115 V4 No Spark

It was the kill switch, plunger type, the engine fires up when I press it in. Yes, I feel like a dumbass but have never seen that type before. Now I need to find the right cap that goes with it to keep in depressed.

The engine fires easily, but runs a few seconds then dies out. The fuel tank and hose / bulb are brand new. It seems like it pushes quite a bit of fuel into engine before the bulb hardens up. Anything to check first to see why it wont stay going?
