I am going to see a 1990 Rinker open bow 20.5 footer. It's got a 305 5.0 and merc outdrive. A little over 300 hours. I've not seen many of the Rinkers, are they decent quality and do they hold up? It'll be a family boat and our first.
Thanks

Re: Are Rinkers any good?

I think Rinkers are a good boat. One of my boating buddies has a 91 Rinker 205 Captiva I believe, and it is very sharp. I didn't know boats of that age had the docking lights, which is a feature I like on runabouts. His boat is solid, and the only problems he has with it are typical maintenance issues. All in all, he says it's been a great boat, he's got the 350 merc in it.

Rinkers are middle of the pack boats in terms of pricing/quality. Nothing wrong with them, just not the fanciest boats.
Why haven't you seen many Rinkers? Is there no dealer in your area?

My first boat was a 94 Rinker 180, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Was a solid boat, never game me any trouble, and looked great in my opinion. I traded it off at the time because it had the Mercruiser 3.0, which I felt was underpowered. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Rinker, though in your case it would depend on how well the previous owner maintained it.
