smart tab mounting issues...

I purchased a set of the smart tabs SX for my 1981 Glastron 167 with a 50hp motor. I?m worried about trying to mount them. My transom is not flat once you get beyond the ?V? part of the hull. It is slightly contoured. I figure I have two options. One will be to mount the tabs too far inboard on the flat part of the transom. This will require moving my speedo pickup and finding another way to strap the boat down. My other option is to mount the tabs on the contoured part of the transom and hope they still work OK. It?s not contoured a lot, I can easily form the bracket into position with my hands. The actuator bracket will not be on the exact same plain as the tab bracket though. I?m not sure what to do and because I bought them through a distributer on ebay (130 dollars with shipping and tax) they will not let me return them.

There is a direct toll free line to Nauticus in the package. Although there are many Smart Tabs customers on this site, the best advice for non standard mounting options will come from the manufacturers customer service. The number is 800-233-0194.

I sent them an email but haven't called yet. I figured I'd save my call for when i'm home and can look at the back of the boat while talking to them.

Yeah just shoot them a call when your looking at the boat.

John that answered you above is probably the guy you'll be talking to.

Good luck.

I have run into this myself, just use small stainless washers to fill the gap and then fill the void with silicone sealer! You may have to buy some longer screws if the void is deep enough!
