ok, I give. What does "on muffs" mean?

Look like ear muffs, but you hook a hose to them and place over the water intake to run the motor while out of the water.

Thanks. I knew it meant running when out of the water (like in a barrel) but never knew what muffs had to do with it.

If you decide to use muffs, make sure your muffs are designed to work with your motor...modern muffs don't cut it with some of the older motors, unless you do some modifications. Best option is to drop the foot under water...tub, barrel, etc.
