New coil ,now arcing around sparkplug boot ?

Hi I have a 1976 evinrude 35 hp (E35602S) I insalled a new IGN. coil and fired right but seems to be missing a little and i can see it arcing around the sparkplug boot its even leaving a black ring around the plug. and this was in the sunlight. and yes it knocked fire out of me when i some how touched it. this motor is the low type magneto no power pack old school,i guess. Well unlike most people on this site we can eliminate spark as a problem, I have to be honest I really don't know the engine but it sounds to me like the spark can't get to the proper place ( the gap on your plug ) I think I would replace plug just as a test but this is just a wild guess based on a how can this happen kinda thing.

Let me know what you find I'd really like to know

Did you install new plugs?

Well I found the Problem When they gave me my new coils they were'nt the part # in the book. the book calls for Part Number: 0581370
Description: COIL AY, IGN They gave me coil #0502881 Well the gave me the sparkplugs from the book which are champ.#UL81C. the plugs dont macth the coils ,I had some Champ. # QL77JC4 from my 1986 8 hp put them in and she purrs like a kitten. I'm going to look more into this like find a motor with the same coil # and see what plugs they call for Thanks Guys . but you know what they say they always run good in the tank,tomorrow I'll put her in the bay and see and later this week when my new prop gets here i'll try her WOT!!!
