Ok I just recently purchased a 1968 sea ray powered by a 120hp mercruiser. This is my first boat ever. So me and my brother and a buddy went out on it last night for my first time out, it unloaded fine started easily but when you put the neutral warmup lever back down into idle position and go to shift it into forward or reverse it stalls the engine everytime. Also, if I kept the engine reved up a little with the neautral warmup lever I could shift it into forward and go but not reverse. And all It will run on the neutral warmup lever is 2000rpms and i know it should go alot better then that.

Re: HELP please:(

I don't know. Could be many issues.

Reving in neutral doesn't tell you anything and it is not a good idea to do that. Should it go past 2000 in neutral? Yes. Do you want to do that? No.

Do you know the service history of the boat? Any chance you can contact the seller and ask them?

You have a lot to check out. Are you running on all cylinders? What is the condition of the outdrive and when was it last serviced. Go up to the "adults only" post at the top of this forum, find and download the manual for your engine and read the troubleshooting section.

You'll need to get more information before any of the forum regulars can really help that much.
