I have a 1966 80hp Evinrude on a 1974 16' ShellLake. I'm new to this and would like to know how to hook up water to the motor so I can flush it and check the motor while out of the water..

I dont know that model at all. It may or may not be possible. Do you have better pics of the lower unit?

The raw water intake on that one is up under the cavitation plate, look just ahead of the prop on that skeg like looking portrusion, it has a screen on the front of it, there is an adapter but I'm not sure where you would get one anymore, I had posted photos for another memeber not too long ago I'll post a link if I can still find it.

Wing, That third picture you posted is the inlet for water when the motor is in reverse. If you remove the three screws and the cover, and put some tape over the water inlet behind the prop, a standard flusher may just fit over the reverse water inlet. You will need to monitor the motor to make sure it is cooling properly, since it has no telltale.

I did some experimenting like this on my '58 Fat-Fifty, and it worked pretty good.

Thanks for the info everyone....Neighbor suggested going to Walmart and getting a large plastic tub. Water will be deep enough to cover the lower unit. What do you think? Will that work?

Just to clarify

That's so the pump is primed. If the water isn't up high enough submerge the pump it will burn up in no time

Thanks Jimmbo, this is all new to me. This a great forum and I'm sure I'll be using it a lot.
