hi, i posted on here last week, the out come(main idea to fix the problem) was i need to clear the floats in my carburettor. i also found it would be best to get a gasket kit for the carb to re-fit it with.
the issue i have is my boat is in southampton, i live in birmingham and im working in ireland till friday evening, and want to go down saturday morning to fix the boad(who said owning a boat was easy...) no one did i guess??
anyway i wandered if anyone knew what carburettor was on the 1992 stingray 4.3lx and what gasket kit i would need so i could get onto finding a supplier sooner than when i go down and take it apart.
also any tips when stripping in down cleaning it and putting it back together, for example, dont touch this setting or your boat will never run again... watch out for this spring shooting out and taking out your eye when removing this cover.
any input would be much appreciated.

Play around on this site, there is a chart where you can go in with your engine serial number and find out the number of your rebuild kit:

Yes a suggestion...On the accelerator pump there is a spring as part of this assembly. New kits usually come with a whole new one. Check the spring tension of the old one against the new one. Use which ever spring is stiffest. They are easy to disassemble and change. A lot of the new kits are repackaged automotive kits (no problems there except as I have noted) Autos use a weaker spring--smog and all that crap. The weaker spring can cause hesitation on quick acceleration.

Other then that it's fairly straight forward. Oh yea. 2 balls will be found as check balls. one under the bottom spring in the accelerator pump cavity. The other under the main jet venturi assy. under a spring. Make sure you put the correct ball back in the correct hole. The larger one will lodge in the wrong hole causing untold headaches getting it back out.

Good luck...also there is a sticky on here re: carb rebuilds.
If your carb is a 2 bbl and has one adjustment needle it is a Mercarb.

Re: 1992 stingray 4.3lx carb spares/maintenance

thanks for the advice on stripping the carb, i did forget to mention that it is a mercruiser engine on my question yesterday, dont know if it helps but i thought about it after i finished on here.

i saw sickwilly has a se hydrofoil on your boat, does this work well? i was going to get one for mine to get it up earlier and crusing at lower speeds.

any other info on my carb service or any other part of the boat would be apperciated, im struggling to find a reliable manual to be able to refer to when doing the work, i can find parts of mercruiser manuals but never the complete one, also looking to buy one is proving difficult as i think the manuals changed at '93' where mine is a '92' so i think its an older manual.... if anyone has a reliable manual for my boat/enging and could tell me where to buy/download one from.

thanks again.

92 was a cross over year and Merc list three diiferent carbs:

Mercrusier carb - rebuild kit number is 3302-9437
Rochester carb " " " " 1397-8535
Weber Carb " " " " 823728
