I Had A Small Leak Around The Impeller Cover Of My Sea Water Pump On The Front Of My Motor When The Motor Was Under Power. I Tried To Tighten The Screws And One Snapped In The Housing. Can This Be Drilled And Tapped While The Boat Is In The Water? The Marina Mechanic Wants $300 To Pull My Boat Out Of The Water To Do The Repair Plus The Repair Cost!! Which Hose Do I Need To Clamp Off So My Boat Doesn't Flood While I'm Doing The Repair. Any Help Would Be Really Appreciated!! The Motor Is A 1988 5.7l Aq 271c Volvo Penta

What kind of shape is the thin cover gasket in? When the mechanics got my boat ready when I bought it they mentioned that someone before them snapped one of those bolts off and it dripped every so often. They were honest, you could tell that the bolt had been in there for a while.

I never saw it drip much when I was running it the first season. Before the second season I got a new impeller and it came with a new cover gasket and it definitely does not leak at all now, and I have had the cover off a couple of times for winterization since then.

In the water? Depends on the boat, but on mine you can. The inlet hose to the pump routes up higher than the water line so I could take that cover off in the lake if needed.

I re-read this, sorry I missed the major questions from your post. It will be obvious which hose any outside water will come from if you can follow the hose(s) back towards the transom. One connects to a fitting at the drive, that is the one to remove and block if your boat's water line is above the highest point of that hose's routing.
