I recently had my mercruiser 350 v8 rebuilt/replaced with a 383 stroker motor. seems to run ok. The original carb was used along with the intake manifold. Do I need different jets to get the most performance from the new "cubes". The boat is a MAXUM SR2300.

Thanks to all for any advice you could provide.

After the engine is broken in properly, then do some runs and "Read" the spark plugs. They will tell you if you need to re-jet or not.

I would do a careful break-in procedure. If you have flat tappet hydraulic cam you have to do a cam break-in (2000 RPM for a minimum of 20 minutes 20 min) I would also use a special break-in oil because of the removal of most of the Zinc and phosphorus from todays oils because the contaminate and break down the catalytic converters in autos. There is no direct oiling of the cam shaft other than bleed by from the lifters and splash from the rotating crank assembly.

You also need to do a minimum of 20 hrs of a specific break-in procedure. I extend my break-in to 50 hrs. I'm going thru the prelim 20 hr break-n with my new 406.
