Outboard on ebay

I asked the seller of an "evinrude johnson 90 hp" outboard motor what the model number was. He replied that it was a 1984. The next day I asked again what the M-O-D-E-L number was. Got the same reply, its a 1984.

Evinrude made 3 model 90 hp motors that year.

I replied that I will not be bidding on his motor because he is avoiding answering the question.

Think its a stolen motor? or maybe assembled from various year parts?

He clearly has something to hide. You don't want to find out what it is.

He obviously isn't a boat guy if he is selling an Evinrude Johnson, normally it is one or the other, stolen is an option.

I think he has given plenty of reason to be avoided, I was thinking maybe he doesn't actually have a motor to sell, that would make it hard to come up with a model number.

The guy sells used marine parts, obviously a salvage operation. He generally has good feedback for parts, but here's what the last buyer of an outboard motor had to say, "Not a nice person to work with and item was no where near as decribe AVOID!!!

I bought an outboard off a guy on e'bay, I traveled 6 hrs one way to Michigan to pick it up, when i got home with it what i found was a well disguised cracked lower housing, the prop shaft was hammered, the pilot bearing housing was busted, the engine mount pins were busted, it was pretty mush trash except for the powerhead which was all I really needed anyhow, luckily the compression was great and it made a good engine for me, the guy did say it was a barn find and was untested, but I'm pretty sure he knew about the problems, thats why he E'bayed it. You really have to watch close for those (semi honest) sellers.

I have had good luck on ebay with motors, and cars. I have one rule I follow though, and that is I only buy junk. I bought 1955 15hp long, when it got here the motor cover mounts were broken, but they had obviously been part of an attempted repair. At $300 I it's no real loss, I'll get them fixed. But for big ticket items. No way would I trust that place. It's just people trying to sell of junk.

I had looked at that motor a few days ago as well....

I have to say the world is full of yahoos who expect UNBELIEVABLE things..they are sellers and buyers.

it is OK if a seller is off the wall...he wont sell stuff because he is in dream land...

but buyers can cause trouble..they expect perfection when it is sight unseen and all descriptions will be to enhance a sale..

Id hate to deal with people as a seller...many buyers want it all and they want it for free!!!

I am dealing with a guy who has 7 bad feedbacks on a motor I want... there are flags..BUT , I realize this is a side business for this guy , he is in to turn a buck..he doesnt want trouble or hassles...but he gets them because people expect delivery ASAP!!!!!!!! and they want mint, when they didnt buy mint

I read through this guys negatives and I might believe half of them might have been a missunderstanding...

a guy doesnt have to scam when he has 388 feedbacks...

he is using Ebay and he needs E bay and he wont trash his connection with willfull BS

I know if i talked to 388 people that I would disslike, and or distrust a lot more than 7 of them!!!!

and I am as honest as they come...

I speak it as I think it...come trouble or not
