Ok I replaced all the wires, lights and all the fun stuff on my boat trailer. Its a 4 prong hook up and everything is new, I plugged it into my dodge durango and all the lights work but the left turn signial. Any ideas of what could be going on?

Re: left turn signal

Do the brake lights both come on? 4-ways flash? If it's the flat 4 way connector I pull it apart and reconnect sideways. Plug the pin for the yellow wire into the socket that has the green wire. Put on your 4 ways and see if the left is now flashing. Doesn't require a walk out to the shop to get a test light. If not get the test light and start at the connector. If power is there plug back in and start at the taillight and check for power in the bulb socket. Brand new bulbs doesn't mean they work. If not check all connections for being tight. Most wiring problems with trailers are caused by a bad ground but if all but one light are good you can usually rule that out. If you are new to boating you will soon find out that 90% of your maintenance time over the years will be spent on the trailer lighting. Used to have a friend that was a chef with no mechanical abilities. Every spring he would bring his bass boat to me because he couldn't get his lights working right. He would bring along a cheese cake and I would clean up the grounds and we would both be happy.

I'd start there first, scrape all the paint off where your ground wire is attach to. Put dielectric grease on it to prevent rust and you should be good. Do a search on bad ground on this forum and you will see for yourself how many strange weird things a bad ground does. Some even sweared either ghost or alien was playing with them.

Re: left turn signal

did you mount the license plate holder between the light and trailer? if so that might be your problem... I bought a trailer that the guy had set up that way, bought a brand new harness, rewired it, and THEN found out why the blinker didnt work right.

Re: left turn signal

Use a wire tester. Everytime I work on my lights I use a wire tester and trace it down starting with your light, test your turn signal wire first, If it works then it could be a bulb problem, there have been plenty of times that I have parking lights and brake lights but no turn signal, I would stop on the road (Auto Zone Etc..) and replaced the bulb and guess what, It Works!! and back on te road again!! Start with your wire to the light with a wire tester if it works then "a bulb" or your wire in the trailer light isn't making a connection.

Do you have a converter in the wiring at the truck end? The Durango uses separate bulbs for the turn signal and brake lights.

Re: left turn signal

i drive a ford ranger and the converter is well worth the $20. i wired and unwired and rewired my trailer and trunk 100 times to find out that ranger brake and turn singles use differnt bulbs and wires. one would work but the other didn't and back and forth. put a 5 wire 4prong converter and every trailer i have pulled lights work great.

in my experience probably 90% of all trailer lighting issues are because of bad grounds...
