My Smart Tabs arrived from iboats and I'm checking over all the parts and install info. Here's what I found:

1. Nauticus indicates on their site that the template for the angle is included, but I don't see any included.

2. The video in the installation section says to use the sealant included or another marine sealant. My package didn't have any included, so I don't know if the video is for only certain sets of tabs or not. What is everyone using - 4200, 5200, or something like that?

3. The installation instructions included state to use the "snap & lock" connectors for the hinge to the plate which would require 4. Instead, I believe I received 4 nylon/plastic bolts 3/8 x 1/75", but the instructions make no mention of them or the change. Are these the bolts that people are changing to stainless because they break? If so, how are you tightening them without tightening your hinge from moving?

4. The included instructions show using a bolt on one end of the actuator and a "snap & lock" pin on the other end, but the website shows using "snap & lock" pins on both ends of the actuator. I received a total of 2 "snap & lock" connectors and two 5/16" x 1" nylon bolts which should work for the actuator even if it's not as stated with the online instructions.

What combination is everyone else receiving in your parts bags and how are you using them if they're not matching with the various sets of instructions included and online? Are most people chaning the nylon bolts to stainless?

Re: Smart Tabs SX - differing information & parts

1) I bought my SX tabs a couple years ago. No template came with mine. I just used an adjustable angle.

2) Use 5200.

3/4) Mine came with "snap & lock" pins for both ends. They are a b**ch to remove when changing to different angles. The factory must have realized this and changed the hardware. I just used 1/4" SS bolts and locking wingnuts on the adjusting end instead of the pins.

Check out the Smart Tabs web page I did for my Sea Rayder Group.

nothing but 5200 to seal - use the fast cure if you don't want to leave it sit for at least a couple days before you splash it.

check the website and see if that gives what you need.

My Smart Tabs arrived from iboats and I'm checking over all the parts and install info. Here's what I found:

1. Nauticus indicates on their site that the template for the angle is included, but I don't see any included.

The tabs are now designed to hang at the correct 25 degree angle when installing, the template is no longer used

2. The video in the installation section says to use the sealant included or another marine sealant. My package didn't have any included, so I don't know if the video is for only certain sets of tabs or not. What is everyone using - 4200, 5200, or something like that?

Use 5200 sealant, I believe they used to come with a sealant strip but 5200 is better all the way around. I coated the entire back of each bracket with a smooth coat of 5200 and then also squeezed some into each hole before inserting the screws, then clean up the squeeze out good. Once that had cured for a day I then added a bead of 5200 around the entire edge of the bracket and smoothed it out, just for extra insurance (anal retentive I know LOL)

3. The installation instructions included state to use the "snap & lock" connectors for the hinge to the plate which would require 4. Instead, I believe I received 4 nylon/plastic bolts 3/8 x 1/75", but the instructions make no mention of them or the change. When I received mine they had snap & lock connectors for attaching the tab to the bracket and to the upper bracket and 2 x plastic nut/bolts. I used the snaps for the tab/lower bracket and actuator/upper bracket connections and then replaced the plastic bolt/nuts with stainless steel bolts with jam nut and nylok nut + SS washers at the tab end, just to be sure they won't come loose

I am assuming that the website info has not kept up with the product changes, but the good news is that you can call at anytime and speak with John at Nauticus, he is always glad to answer any questions one may have on the product.

I put mine on 2 months ago and am extremely happy with them!

Happy Boating! :)

The general idea is that 5200 is for items you never intend to remove and 4200 for items you aren't sure if you'll ever remove. Either way, both products have been used successfully.

I used 4200 with mine and have had no problems at all. I would recommend 4200, there may be a reason to take them off someday, probably not but just in case you do want to be able to remove them.

Re: Smart Tabs SX - differing information & parts

I've seen 5200 quick cure in smaller tubes (not the caulking gun cartridge) at Lowes. In the paint dept, on the rack with epoxy and other glues. One tube was more than enough to install my tabs. Lowes did not have 4200.

Home Depot didn't have either.

If there's no marine store near you, maybe check with a real hardware store like Ace.

If you have a West Marine near you they will have the 4200 quick cure. I saw 5200 at Home Depot but it was not quick cure.

Bass Pro Shop has 4200, maybe Cabelas also, or any other of the same type stores.
