Guys, new to the forum. Love forums, it's the best way to get information and learn about new stuff. Anyways, I was given an old boat that apparently is not running. It has a Mercury Thunderbolt 500 50hp motor and I am searching for the manual. I tried the search function for sites to search for the serial number, however, 1 number/digit is not legible. I was hoping someone here could help. What I have is 9?3032320. Any help is much appreciated.

Re: SN?

No answers, great. That's ok, i've been doing some more searching and think it's a 1971, can anyone maybe confirm this and direct me to a site for a repair manual. Thank you.

Check out maxrules.com for year. You learn by doing it for yourself I've always said.

Thanks for the link, that's where I got the year I beleive to be 1971.

Also, I agree with your statement on learning. That is why I am searching for the year and manual...to fix it myself, or at least make an honest attempt at it, all the while learing about "my new hobby". If I am unable, then I'll post more specific questions.

Again, thanks

Cheapest manuals you can get for those motors is on E-bay, they are CD's with the manual in PDF files. NOt the greatest thing in the world, but beats nothing.

IMO, those are the best types. You can use the search function for keywords and quickly navigate the entire manual.

Re: SN?

I've bought a couple of those CD's on Ebay for older Johnson and Mercury motors, and they are basically parts diagrams, print ads, some maintenance info. Not really what I needed to work on my motors. Nothing matches the factory service manual for the right info. I kept my eye on Ebay and grabbed a pre-65 manual for $40. I always check the newly listed buy it now ads first.

I found a place that sells the dealer service manuals for everything Mercury for $72. To me its worth it. I purchase the dealer manuals whenever possible for all my vehicles. I'll keep an eye on Ebay too.
