Hello all, and thanks for the posts to help me with my issues thus far.

Ok, so now. The 1974 Evinrude 85hp is a 2 stroke.
So this means in the gas tank, I've gotta mix the oil and gas?

The guy I got the boat from (don't know how reliable) says he mixes it 40 to 1.

Any recommendations on what i should be doing?

This motor has been sitting for 2 years, I just replaced the stator and the choke solenoid so I've gotten it to sputter to life, but I've not ran it for anything longer then a sec or two.

I'm going to put it in a barrel after I put some fresh gas in it and let it run for 20 - 30 min before taking it out on actual water.

Should I do anything to help it through the process and help clean out any junk that may have built up in there?

Thanks

Ratio is 50:1 87 or 89 US Octane to TC-W3 oil. Synthetic TC-W3 oils will produce less carbon and plug fouling. Fuel stabilizer should be added when new fuel is purchased for best results.

Don't run the motor without water supply at all or you will destroy the water pump.

It would be a good idea to drain the carburetors and flush the lines. Remove the plugs at the bottoms of the carburetor bowls and squeeze the primer bulb to flush out the sediment.

Will refrain from dry starting again.

Thanks for the info. Should I get stabilizer and Sea Foam?

Thanks for the info. Should I get stabilizer and Sea Foam?

I don't use SeaFoam as a fuel stabilizer, I use it for a de-carbon treatment.

I've used Sta-Bil for many years with no problems ever, so I can definitely recommend it.
