Help with removing lower unit

I have a 69 merc 350 electric start. I have loosened 3 bolts that hold the lower unit on but it only drops down a 1/2 or so then doesn't seem to want to move any lower? I need to replace the pump. Any help would be great!!

hi,
I thought there were 4 nuts holding it on. The two on the sides, one behind the housing above the prop and one under the trim tab. if you have them off then the splines are sticking. Either the shift shaft or the driveshaft are bound up with rust or something. Some tapping with a rubber mallet may help. I try to pry down on the side stud tops with a big screw driver. You could do a search for LU removal in the forum. There are lots of good ways listed.

Ya I have all 4 off. Sorry for the mis print. Damn thing anyway. Everything is grown together on it.
