Cooling Water Outlet

I just purchased a 1996 Nissan 8HP. I tested the motor and noticed that although a strong stream of water comes out of the tell tale port, only spurts of water come out of the cooling water outlet port. The volumne of water changes from barely a dribble to a decent spurt. The water is very hot to the touch but not scalding. I can also feel pulsating air with the spurts of water. The tell tale water is cold. Is this normal?

Re: Cooling Water Outlet

What model do you have? Mfg year doesn't mean too much on these.

If it's a thru-hub exhaust model, the majority of the cooling water goes out of the prop hub, and the upper holes are only exhaust relief for low rpm and reverse. Yes, the water will be pretty warm there, and yes, the volume will vary.

Of course, if the water is scalding, you may have salt and silt built up, restricting cooling water.

That's a thru-hub exhaust model. The majority of cooling water goes out the hub. So you don't have "cooling water exit ports". If you have a good telltale, you should be OK. Keep in mind that the impeller is a regular service item, and will need periodic replacement.
