DVR is cool!

I tend to hang back from the leading edge of technology. Mostly because I want to give technology a chance to stabilize, and become popular before I invest in it.

Well that time has come for me and DVR. Got one with the Dish network setup and I finally got around to using it. Wow! This is just too cool! The convenience is outstanding! Been recording everything from Monster Truck Jam (ummm, that's for the kids) to movies that are on too late for me to watch.

Have to admit this is something I should have tried earlier.

it really is cool, i miss it. 1 hr tv shows can be watched in 40 min with no commercials......its great.

Best part is watching football (sorry, I only watch the CFL) without having to listen the the commentators drone on and on and on and on and on etc.

Start watching 1 1/2 hours after the game starts and can just watch football.

Money well spent. Unless there is some special event, I can't stand to watch live TV. Having to watch commercials is a cruel form of torture. They're great if have children too, as you can not only monitor what they watch, but when they watch.

The only draw back is that you tend to watch more TV if given the chance.

Me too. I'm thinking about picking up one of them VHS machines as it looks like Beta is gonna lose out.

You guys have time for tv? That's incredible!! I don't watch much tv, but when I do, it's only sporting events (baseball, football, etc.), shark week on Discovery, or that Planet Earth on Discovery. I don't really watch many shows, you miss one and you have no clue what's going on the next week.

How does anyone have time for T.V between this site and Facebook site and learning how to text on that cellphone(cellphone is made for calling not texting) and going boating there is no time for T.V

Yep, DVR is awesome. As is HDTV. Yesterday I swapped out the regular digital box in my bedroom for a DVR and upgraded the DVR in the living room to HD... since my sweetie brought her 40" LCD tv over to my place last week.

I record virtually EVERYTHING that I watch, including the news. I can not only skip over the commercials, but also the stories where I'm not interested.

The only thing I watch live are the business shows during the day while I'm busy online or going in and out of the house. They're mostly to keep me "company" (and offset tiinnitus) but I do pay attention to any breaking news.
