Well a friend of my grandfathers passed away years ago and left behind a fishing boat. Ive been dragging my feet to go up north(michigan) to get it and I finally did this past Sunday. It had been sitting partially covered on the side of an easement for about 5 years. The tires on the trailer it was on were dried rotted and flat so I just bought new hubs and tires. I was assuming the bearings were shot so I flipped through a trailer bearing book at work and grabbed 4 sets of bearings seals races for a couple different size axles(my wallet was in pain). Well I got there and everything went pretty smoothly, I was a little suprised that the motor was 1976 my grandfather and I had assumed it was a 1960s evinrude. The boat was filled with all kinds of odds and ends. I even got 2 batterys that have been on mantainers for years.
Well I made it home smoothly besides the trailer lights not working.

Monday night I started cleaning her out and I found a minnow net, a fishfinder , a gaff hook, rain ponchos, 2 fire extinguishes, 2 anchors , boobers up the ying yang, bouys, a live net, lures, lines bilge pump, hoses and the boats seats and pedastals are in great shape.

Tues night tried finding out what the name of the boat was Northbeach had a brochure of a 1965 mariner and that was it to a tee.

Weds night I just got done building a new fuel hose with a newer primer and fuel filter the old one was toast.

I flushed the fuel tank changed the lower end lube and changed the spark plugs and I stuck the old evinrude in a 55 of water. She turns over great but I have a feeling Im not not getting any spark. The wirings a mess though.
Heres the rest of my pics

Neat little boat. I wouldn't mind having something similar myself for fishing some of the skinnier water near me. Good luck with your project.

Man that is a beautiful boat huh? I've got a 14 footer that I just resurrected from behind my dads old woodpile. It had been rotting away for 24 years.

Floors were rotten so I had to replace them, which was super fun. Kept trimming the wood with my jigsaw until it fit. (The whole cardboard template idea didn't work)

Also put a coat of paint and a 92 30HP Johnson 2-Stroke. The thing rides great in rough water. I take it out in Long Island Sound and in the Atlantic off of Rhode Island. Cuts through the waves like a hot knof through butter. Sometimes I feel sorry for the person sitting in the front though.

I'll post pics when I get home

What a great boat..... it is just like mine.... 16 ft mariner-V

Mine is in about the same shape....

I bought mine for a fishing boat just to take my little girl out on and after finding this site... I believe our little boat will become as nice as a new aluminum deep V tracker boat when we are done....

keep the pictures coming.... they are great and what an inspiration...

Just a couple of things I am missing from my boat....

I need the rear corner trim pieces for my boat.... does anyone know where to get these???

I had the same boat with a 33hp evy. We tubed and skied with it. Planed off like a champ and was remarkably stable with 3 adults and a dog. Good Luck

I have a 1989 40 hp mercury with quicksilver throttle / key setup....

So it should be ok as far as power right????

I was really worried after putting a 10" raised casting deck in the front with a small livewell / baitwell just in front cent of console and small casting deck in back it would be to heavy... for the engine...

Please let me know what you think since some of you have owned one of these....

thank you in advnance,
Keven

Mine has a 35 with less than perfect power...

A large heavy bench in the rear, dual consoles, and a casting seat up front..

She gets on plane very fast...

You will have more power...

Should be great

Taking a boat off the trailer

Taking a boat off the trailer

Hey guys whats the most simplistic way to take my boat off of the trailer?
I dont have local access to a lake and I need to get it weighed and painted.
Someone said use some old tires possibly?

Re: Restoring a 16' 1968 Starcraft Mariner V

I just hooked chain to the transom hooks and hooked the other end to my gate post.... it is a 4x4 buried 4 feet and pulled the trailer extremly slowly with my truck, leaving the boat behind and my buddy jammed the dollys under as boat came off trailer, I made some furniture type dollys out of 2x4 and heavy duty casters.... then just rolled the boat around.... trailer was free from boat.... now I have a dilly tilt trailer so it did not fall or even hit hard...

to do the bottom of the boat... I got about five of my buddies and bribed them with a case of beer to help me turn it over onto saw horses.... with 2x6x10 bolted to the top of them between saw horses.... of course open case of beer after boat is safely atop the saw horses.... or nothing might not get done after case is opened....
