1995 Evenrude 25hp

My dad has this engine on his fishing boat, a 1995 Evenrude 25, and I was looking it over today after cleaning the fuel filter and generally cleaning it up and noticed it does not have any sort of air cleaner or air box on the carb. Is that the way it should be? The inside of the cowling is littered with dead bugs and generally pertty dirty ... I well imagine that is also all being pulled in through the carb. Anyone got a picture or a parts breakdown of what should or shouldn't be on there?

No air cleaner or airbox on it. If you'd like to look at a parts breakdown, go to shop.evinrude or crowleymarine.com and take a peak. I find them quite handy. Most of the bugs crawled under there and died. Not a lot of dust over water (I guess that's the idea, anyway). I hate to duck hunt at the river near my house because the wind blows sand off the bars and gets it everywhere. I'll bet some gets in the motor, too. Either way, they don't have any type of air filter.
