2007 Tahoe Q4- Electrical Problem

We left the radio on in my 2007 Tahoe Q4 and killed the battery. It has a 4.3 Merc inboard. My step son was changing the battery and he crossed the wires and blew a fuse somwhere. We used a test light and found out we weren't getting power to the ignition switch. We could crank the boat by using a jumper, but could not find the blown fuse. We traced wires and called ourseleves checking all the fuse but we couldn't find the short. I called the local Tracker dealer (who's two hours from me) and he said I didn't have the right tools to find the blown fuse. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I can only think of a couple of places there would be fuses.
fusible link in the wiring harness (usually close to battery)
fuse pannel?
do you have resettable circuit breakers?
do you have the owners manual as there could be a wiring diagram in it.

Owner's Manual was no help. There was a big plug in the wiring harness, do you think there might be an inline fuse inside of it?

no I dont think so.
"I THINK" that it is in the hot leed that goes to the ignition switch.
no resettable circuit breakers? or fuse panell under all your gauges?
(in that area)

Don S has the picture of it someplace, and it's in the forums if you want to search for it. But the fuse is on the starter itself. Look at where the battery cable goes down and connect to the starter. Thats the fuse right there.

Might want to stop by the dealer and pick one up before you get home. If you got the connections on the battery backwards then you popped that fuse.

Thanks guys, you were right it was that fuse. I never would have known where to look without your help. Your advise kept my step-son's mistake under $30, if I 'd taken it to the dealer- who knows. Thanks again.

Big box retailer like BPS, probably the $30part plus 1 hour labor, so figure $100 and change.

Now, go put some red paint on the battery to mark the + side and get back on the water.
