Hi iboaters, I have a 1989 Force 85 hp motor. The foam insulation in the cover came loose and the flywheel chewed it up. It would be nice to replace the foam with some type of soundproofing material to make it quieter. It is hard to communicate even at lower power settings so do any of you have any ideas? Thanks in advance......Tractorjockey

You need a fuel and oil resistant product.Try west Marine.
I have tried to re-line the cowlings on my motors and had NO luck.It usually came right down.
When you clean the old stuff out make sure the foam didn't get into the carbs. It will cause the reeds to stay open and can cause the pistons to go.

Re: sound proofing a force engine cowling

Sorry, no help to offer, but Last weekend i watched helplessly as my fiance' and two young children floated down the river as I stood by the trailer and watched. The foam insulation came loose and fell in front of the carb. The boat would attempt to start then suffocate. Thank God there was someone there to pull them in. I will prob be in the same shape as you as I tore the insulation from the top of the engine cowling with a vengance. Also need to re-think my loading procedure, maybe beach it while i get the trailer in the water and I can drive the boat on while they are safely ashore. My six yo about had a nervous breakdown. lol:redface: This ever happen to anyone else?

First thing i did when i bought my 20 year old 85 hp force was strip the insulation out from inside the cowling. That stuff is no good for the carbs.
