Darned carpet was soaked all weekend. The new sections of ply that were glassed over in the recessed deck and bilge cover stayed nice and dry as the water just ran off into the bilge. The carpet held the water and got stinky, plus probably is helping let it work its way into any cracks, etc. in the deck.

So, its coming out, even if I don't get to glass the deck until spring.

I always wanted to put down Deco Dot vinyl decking, but after taking a hard look at the deck, seat bases, recessed deck area, I realized there are lots of corners and seams needed to install vinyl. Might just gel coat the whole thing. It sure would be easier to roll on gel coat than have to cut, fit and trim the vinyl to make it look good and not worry about peeling up. Will have to do a price comparison, if they are comparable, gel coat may just win out.

Anyway, the carpets days are numbered. :)

I agree, I hate carpet in boats. My current boat has it, but I had an idea. You know that Rhino truck liner stuff? I was thinking about putting that on the deck. It may get hot on the feet, but at least it would not stay wet, and it's pretty durable.

I used some of the exterior paint with texture usually for exterior steps etc. The kids did not like the gray color so we painted it white. There is only one coat of paint on it right now, we have used the boat a few times and appears to be holding up. We are planning on applying another coat of white but need to clean it good.

The good thing about textured paint is you just touch it up, or redo a coat, as it gets worn...simple and easy.

Agree. I did not put it on very well and it is not evenly covered but the white paint hides it well.

My opinion , and its worth what you pay me for it, rugs are for non boaters.
Unless the boat has a nice cabin, more like a stateroom.

I painted my deck with interdeck, high quality stuff but it holds the dirt.
At this point I'm tempted to try interlux topside, it will be slippery but with the proper shoes...

You should give KiwiGrip a try, amazing stuff. Did my deck on my center console and I'm very, very satisfied and you clean it with just water, look how clean she looks and this is a fishing boat. Took 3 liters to do the deck and the gunwale

Roll gelcoat - 2 or 3 coats. Mix sandblasting sand into first coat for non-skid. If you go with white, a bleach solution will clean it right up.

Easy and fast.
